Transponder Chips

At The Car Key Depot, we stock a range of transponder chips for a variety of vehicle applications. Our selection includes genuine, OEM and aftermarket options to suit different programming requirements.

These are small electronic components fitted inside a vehicle key. Each chip communicates with the vehicle’s immobiliser system. This ensures that only recognised keys can start the vehicle.

These chips can easily become lost when re-casing a key or as a result of key damage. Automotive locksmiths also use transponder chips when generating new keys for customers.

Many of our chips pair perfectly with universal keys that do not include a transponder, such as our KeyDIY B-series range. This gives locksmiths greater flexibility when programming different vehicle applications.

FAQs

  • What does a transponder chip do?
    • A transponder communicates with the vehicle’s immobiliser system. If the correct chip is recognised, the vehicle can be started.
  • Can I transfer the original chip into a new key?
    • Yes. If the original transponder is still present and working correctly, it can often be transferred into a replacement key or new housing. This avoids the need to programme a new one.
  • Which keys are these chips compatible with?
    • Many of our products are suitable for use with universal keys that are supplied without a chip, including the KeyDIY B-series range. Please refer to the individual product description to confirm compatibility before ordering.
